Why Citizens should turn in their unused prescription drugs:
1). Children and animals may be poisoned if they find and swallow drugs.
2). Drugs can be scavenged and illegally sold.
3). Unused pharmaceuticals are environmental toxins; flushing them down the toilet or sink can release them into our drinking water and soil.
“Never flush medications down the toilet!”
Medications flushed down the toilet are ending up in our drinking water. Water treatment facilities are not designed to remove medications. Medications are also affecting fish and other aquatic life after treatment facilities return the water to streams and rivers.
