The Kimberling City Police Department is proud to partner with the Springfield, Nixa, Ozark, Indian Point, Hollister, and other Southwest Missouri Police Departments to bring the Blue Envelope Program to our community.
Blue Envelopes are now available at City Hall, the Police Department, and from on-duty officers.
The Blue Envelope Program empowers individuals to communicate their specific needs or challenges during a traffic stop. Drivers can present the envelope to an officer, helping provide a clear understanding of their situation so the officer can respond appropriately. Each envelope contains important documents such as a driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance, along with information explaining the individual’s condition and their intent to cooperate.
This program is especially beneficial for individuals who may:
• Be deaf or hard of hearing
• Have difficulty speaking clearly
• Be learning English
• Live with autism, ADHD, or other neurodevelopmental conditions
• Experience anxiety, PTSD, or other mental health conditions
• Have dementia, cognitive, or neurological impairments
• Experience involuntary movements, such as those associated with Tourette syndrome
• Be blind or have low vision
• Have medical-related speech difficulties
The envelope also provides helpful reminders for drivers during a traffic stop:
• Stop in a safe location
• Remain in the vehicle unless instructed otherwise
• Keep hands visible on the steering wheel
• Inform the officer that you have a Blue Envelope and follow instructions
This program helps reduce stress, improve communication, and promote safer, more understanding interactions between our officers and the community. We encourage residents to take advantage of this valuable resource.
